Project Status
Progressing steadily toward construction
The Mohale’s Hoek Wind Farm has reached several key milestones, with remaining activities aligned toward financial close and construction readiness.
Feasibility & Technical Studies
- Wind resource assessment: Desktop study completed; more than one year of SODAR measurements concluded. A mast measurement campaign is scheduled to commence in early 2026.
- Grid connection: Confirmed as technically feasible, requiring limited additional investment.
- Site access: Harbour-to-site road survey completed. Local mountain access road has been scoped and fully budgeted.
- Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA): Environmental clearance granted in September 2024.
Commercial Progress
- Power Purchase Agreement (PPA): Currently under negotiation, with finalisation expected by February 2026.
Land Rights & Tenure
- Community agreements: Principles agreed through a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant councils; public servitude status confirmed.
- Land allocation and registration: Allocation and (sub)lease registration expected by February 2026.
Institutional & Development Partner Support
- Government of Lesotho: Formal support letters secured; Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the finalisation stage.
- European Union: Financial and non-financial support provided through GET.Invest and GIZ. The project is recognised as a Global Gateway – Team Europe priority project for Lesotho.
